Previous Names: Drive-In Movies
The Drive-In Movies opened on May 5, 1948 with Arturo de Cordova in “New Orleans”. Above the name on the street sign were animated neon cars moving inward toward the box-office. The theatre held 400 cars.
At some point, the theatre became known as the Jeff Drive-In. It was built and operated by the Woolner Brothers, who sold it to Gulf States Theatres sometime in the 1960’s.
The Jeff Drive-In was the last drive-in theatre to operate in the greater New Orleans area, closing in 1983.
The closing manager was Bob Buras, former manager of the Algiers Drive-In, with assistance from his son, Bobby Buras.
The site of the Jeff Drive-In is now an apartment complex.
