The State Theater was opened on July 17, 1941 by Tri-State Theaters. The opening movie was Jane Frazee in “San Antonio Rose”. Seating was provided for 728, in orchestra and balcony levels. It was a clean, attractive building with white and gold pressed tin and glazed red brick trim. There was the familiar marquee sheltering the entrance and ticket booth. “State” was spelled out in red and neon Aztec letters on both sides of the marquee.

IS it possible that the next door place was the Ritz Theatre? The front sure looks like it was once a Theatre.. Just a thought.. (Looking at the American Classic 1981 photo)
The New State Theatre launched July 17, 1941 with “San Antonio Rose.” It replaced the old State Theatre which then became the New Texan Theatre.
