There is more history to this building. It was originally built as a 1920’s movie studio as you can see from the classic shape! Hialeah almost became Hollywood in the 1920’s, but the 1926 Miami Hurricane blew away that dream. My 91yo Dad lived in Hialeah during the mid-1930’s and there were still three 1920’s movie studios, two were abandoned and one was converted to the Hialeah Theatre. Today the original movie studio is now a church. I wish a historical preservation society would acknowledge this unique building in Hialeah history!

it eventually was closed down and turned into a church because there really wasnt any people traffic to it, since u had both the essex and circle theaters closeby. also, it was located on the corner of a one-way traffic route.

The 1975 Miami News lists a Windsor Theatre. Does anyone know where that might have been?

Interesting find, Harvey. I don’t remember, but apparently it was the case, even if short lived. Opa-Locka was always Aladdin’s historic turf so I guess this was close enough.

Found an ad for the Aladdin Twin Cinema that has an address of 799 Palm Avenue. The Hialeah was a twin in its later days?

The first mention I found of this theatre in the Miami Herald was in 1934.

They seemed to have tried everything over the years including Spanish language films, live shows and everything Charles Bronson and Bruce Lee ever made.

I remember once seeing a sign when I was a little girl and asking my brother about it and he laughed but never explained what was funny. I had asked him who is “Emmanuelle” and if that was another Kung Fu artist like Bruce Lee. Funny enough we had a neighbor named Emmanuelle (a guy). My brothers used to watch Bruce Lee movies there in the 70’s so you are right they played action movies, of all types, apparently, lol. It is now a church or something like that.

No, they were mostly action films then. Just before this name change they experimented with porn.

That is interesting. Is that when they started showing “off color” movies?

From 1982 to 1985 this was renamed the Palm Avenue apparently to avoid confusion with the GCC Hialeah Cinema on 49th street.

I remembe this theatre oh so well, as a child. I lived real close by the theatre. I remember as a little girl, my older brothers used to see Kung Fu movies there. I remember some Bruce Lee movies, maybe something like “Revenge of the Dragon”. I also remember that sometime later they played what my mom called “strange movies” with the title of “Emmanuelle” in it. We moved away after that and I only rememeber it as a theatre. If anyone has on an old picture to post, that would be great. Maria
