The Orpheum Theatre was originally built in 1926 as a silent movie theatre. By 1957 the Orpheum Theatre was operated by Daytz Theatre Enterprises Corp. and continued to show movies throughout the 1960’s and 1970’s and was triplexed in 1984. Finally, after over 70 years as a movie theatre, the Orpheum Theatre closed in 1989.
The Foxborough Regional Center for the Performing Arts, Inc. purchased the Orpheum Theatre in 1993 and converted the theatre into a peforming arts center and reopened it in 1994. By 2018 it had been renamed Marilyn Rodman Performing Arts Center.

I was surprised to see the Orpheum reappear in today’s Boston Globe movie listings, after many years' absence. Turns out they are having a festival of recent documentaries each weekend in July.
It also appears that they are now using the name ‘Orpheum Theatre’, not ‘Foxborough Regional Center for the Performing Arts’.
Here is one of the photos I took last night before seeing Enron: the Smartest Guys in the Room. The Orpheum is a 32 minute drive from where I live. The village common across from the theatre is very pleasant.
I’m glad that you made it out to the Foxboro theatre; you should have stopped by the booth! A former projectionist who had worked at the Orpheum years ago was visiting that night and enjoyed seeing the venue in its present form.
(I should point out here that the cause of Friday’s brief show interruption—a clogged fan which tripped a thermal sensor in the lamphouse power supply—was corrected on Saturday afternoon.)
The MGM Theatre Photograph and Report form for the Orpheum in Foxborough has a photo taken in May 1941. Unlike most of the facade photos in these Reports, the photographer stood about 100 yards away, for some reason. The address is given as “Rockhill Street”. The Report states that the theatre is not a MGM customer; but in the next line states that it has been presenting MGM product for over 10 years. It states that the theatre is over 15 years old; that it is in Good condition, and has 418 seats on the main floor and 113 in the balcony, total: 531 seats. A competing theatre is the Mansfield Theatre in Mansfield, and the 1940 population of Foxboro was 6,300.

For the Halloween season 2008 the Orpheum has fitted itself out as a “haunted theater” which patrons can roam through, including the backstage area.
The Orpheum continues to host a variety of entertainments. During Christmas week there will be 2 different children’s shows on stage, and from Dec. 26 – 28 will run the annual Three Stooges film festival.
The Orpheum in Foxboro is listed in the 1927 Film Daily yearbook as having 300 seats and open 3 days per week.
