Rocky Mountain Repertory Theatre

The Lake Theater was a seasonal house operating summers in Grand Lake, Colorado. It operated in a building designed as a movie house, upstairs 35mm projection booth, cozy concession area (all there was of a lobby), that also functioned as a church and as a community meeting hall. It is now the summer home of a long-resident theatre troup, formerly at the now-demolished Pine Cone Inn.

I attended it regularly between the mid-1950’s and the mid-1970’s. Most playdates were 3-4 days, based on a monthly handbill available all over town. Don’t know the owner/operators names, but they defined “mom'n'pop” operation. Excellent popcorn with real butter. Most films were new with some repeats, mostly John Wayne titles like “Rio Bravo” and “Hatari”.

By 2016 it had been renamed Rocky Mountain Repertory Theatre.

The repertory group is busy planning its new home, scheduled to open in 2011. I didn’t see anything recent that showed the group using the Lake Theater for performances.
