The Tillery Theatre was on Clinton Highway in Knoxville Tennessee where Jim Clayton’s (yes, Clayton Homes Jim Clayton) car dealership is now. It was opened on October 6, 1947 with Gary Cooper in “Cloak and Dagger”.
I saw great movies on Saturdays after a long week of working on the farm. Saw “Singing in the Rain” there, a lot of westerns, but my best memory was the movie, “The Wizard of Oz”. When it went from black and white to color when Dorothy woke up in Oz, the whole theater just said “Ahh!”
Nine cents admission, drinks five cents and popcorn a dime. Memories don’t get any better than that.

I remember seeing “Seven Brides For Seven Brothers” and “The High and the Mighty” there at different times back when I was growing up in Knoxville in the 50s'. Great neighborhood theater.
