The Central Cinema opened in 1913 and was operated by Cundy and Company. It stood on the East side of Richmond Street, close to the High Street, Plaistow, in east London. By 1917 a Mr O.F. Parnell was the proprietor and he operated it until 17th February 1934 when it closed for re-decoration.
It re-opened on 4th March 1934 under the proprietorship of Mr L.A. Katz and was re-named Plaza Cinema. It closed briefly in October 1937, re-opened and closed for the last time in 1940. It was hit by a German bomb and never re-opened. The ruined building was demolished in 1969.

My friend Robert Farrow grew up a couple of streets away from the site of the Central/Plaza. He recalls playing in the ruins in the mid/late 1950s, and that the walls were reasonably intact, but the roof had completely gone. He was told it had taken a direct hit by a bomb.
