The Coliseum was built in 1861 and was used for roller skating and boxing until about 1897, when it was renamed the Star Theater and used for live theater as well as church services. A fire in 1901 severely damaged the Star Theater, and after rebuilding it became the Lyceum Theater. Plays, burlesque shows and silent movies were presented until the theater’s demolition in the 1920’s.

In the American Motion Picture Directory 1914-1915 edition, this gets two listings;as the Lyceum Theatre and as Proctor’s Lyceum Theatre.
Don Rittner’s Times Union article about Fred Proctor says that Proctor took over the Lyceum Theatre in 1912. By 1918, the Lyceum was hostinga stock company, according the The New York Clipper of November 27.
