Situated in northwestern Pennsylvania, the Brockway Theatre opened on July 19, 1941 and was originally owned and operated by Joseph B. Kosco, according to the 1942 Film Daily Year Book. With the innovative Ben Schlanger as architect, the Brockway’s "entire auditorium design and finish is inspired by the physical sciences of the behaviour of light and sound emanating from the screen surface and sound system," said the annual’s editors. "Contrary to usual practices in auditoria design for film exhibition, surfaces are of a hard smooth finish, comparatively light in color. Proper control of the sound and screen light reflections are achieved by specially designed angularized and grooved surfaces. The seating is mostly on the main floor, but there is also a small mezzanine section."

The July 18, 1941 issue of Film Daily had this item about the Brockway Theatre:

“Brockway House Open Tomorrow

“Brockway, Pa. — The new 605-seat Brockway Theater, constructed by J. B. and C. B. Kosco, will have its formal opening tomorrow. Attending will be many members of the trade from both the exhibition and distribution fields. The old Brockway Theater, owned and operated by the Kosco brothers for many years, will be closed.”
