The Savoy Theatre was opened May 30, 1912. It was renamed the Liberty Theatre on June 12, 1920. It closed November 15, 1924 after the larger Madison Cinema opened. It was used for a short time as a miniature golf course before becoming a warehouse, and then a NAPA auto parts store.
The structure still stands (minus its auditorium), but plans are underway to demolish everything but the facade and build a four story residential/commercial building in its place. A 1924 photo can be found on page 3 of the April 26, 2007 Star Ledger.

Ah! I was in Madison cycling yesterday and was checking out the downtown. I went right by this building and made a note to come on here and see if it indeed was a theatre. It sure looked like one and is still standing as a NAPA store, however it’s just the lobby of the building with no auditorium. Must have sat only 200 or so.
Ads for grand opening as the Savoy Theatreon May 30, 1912 in photos as the theatre competed against the Electric Theatre that had opened the previous year. The Savoy closed in 1920 but new operators relaunched as the Liberty Theatre with grand opening ad June 12, 1920 in photos. The last showing was on November 15, 1924 with new operators promising a Fall 1925 relaunch which never happened. It was converted to the Black Cat Indoor Miniature Golf Course.
