The Jim Theatre opened as the Siegle Theatre in the late 20’s at 406 DeSiard, Monroe, Louisiana.
Later the name changed to Joy, and then the Jim.
It was the same size building as the clothing stores beside it. As I remember it was only about 16 seats wide with two aisles and a small balcony. Every other row of seats had what we called a “fat-man seat”, which was one seat for two people. I liked it because you could put your “stuff” in your seat and not have to sit so close to someone. Later on as I grew up, it dawned on me that it was for two people.
The Jim did have some first run pictures. I don’t think “Gone With The Wind” first showed there, but it was when it returned every few years, it came to the Jim.
To this day, I can remember smell in the theatre and how sticky the floor was with spilled drinks.

I attended the Jim once in the late 1960s and saw Johnny Cash in a real “B” picture. The Jim was a pretty small place.

I believe the name of the film was “Door-to-Door Maniac.” The film was released in 1961 but it showed up again at the Jim in 1966 or 1967.
