The town of Alcolu has all but disappeared. The Gaiety Theater was opened on August 7, 1917. It was later renamed Alcolu Theater. The old theater became an antiques store, but has been demolished.

This site gives a construction date of 1914. Look under Exit 122/ US 521 West, near the top:

Alcolu…..Alderman Coldwell and Lula….(Al)derman Lumber along with business partner (Co)ldwell and (Lu)la was Alderman’s daughter.
