The Sunset Drive-In opened in 1946 with a capacity of 200 cars. It was operated by C.B Andrews. The theatre closed for the winter on September 11, 1963, and it never reopened. Later on it was redeveloped for industrial use. Santee Printworks built a factory on the property.

The M.K.B. Sunset Drive-In Theatre opened April 28, 1949 with Ann Southern and Jack Carson in “April Showers” supported by the Popeye cartoon, “House Tricks?” It closed with Dolores Hart in “Lisa” on September 11, 1963.
The “New and Modern Drive-In” opened on April 28th, 1949 and renamed Sunset Drive-In on May 27th, 1949. Grand opening ads posted.
The Sunset Drive-In never opened in 1946. Sumter didn’t get its first drive-in theater until the July 1947 opening of the Sumter Drive-In.
