1991 fire photo & description credit Roger Katz. Courtesy Brattleboro Historical Society. “1991 Paramount Theater fire on a rainy day…Firefighters from Keene, Putney, Hinsdale, Troy and Fitzwilliam, Vernon and Brattleboro fought the fire to contain it to the one building. Bellows Falls, Dummerston and West Chesterfield covered the local fire stations during the fire. Over 100 firefighters battled the blaze for four hours and some remained all night to wet down the inside. Vt. State Police Detective Sgt. Timothy Austin said the fire was accidental and started in the space between the drop ceiling and the roof of the main theater. He said he was “reasonably sure” the fire was caused by faulty electrical circuits in the ceiling over the theater.”-from Reformer news reports.
