News About This Theater

Corazon Cinema & Cafe

Located in a building constructed in 1894. Pot Belly’s Cinema Plus was opened prior to 2009 and operated as a triple screen cinema.

Reopened on September 19, 2014 as the Corazon Cinema & Cafe when it was taken over by new owners and renovated. There were two screens used to screen movies, one seating 100, the other seating 60. The third space was used for dining, but did have a TV and showed live sporting events etc. It was closed permanently on January 28, 2021 and was demolished in August 2023.

Yep, it is now obvious how this theater got its name. This is truly one of the ugliest theaters I have ever seen. It was closed when I was in St. Augustine last week, but it appeared even uglier on the inside. Interestingly, just inside the theater is an old and very large film projector on display. How old is this theater? This can’t be the only theater in the history of St. Augustine, though I found no evidence of any other.

Pot Bellies was anamazing spot. The lobby was filled with tons of memorabilia, all pop culture oriented. The paraphenalia lined the walls all the way back to the auditoriums. These pics of this new place make me sad, because the personality has departed this location. It’s a shame about their closing because you could tell that the owners were totally into movies and pop culture. Grand old spot.

The Corazon Cinema & Cafe closed temporarily on March 20, 2020 for the COVID-19 pandemic. It reopened May 22, 2020. Unfortunately, the venue was closed permanently on January 28, 2021.
