The 8-screen Movies at the Lake was opened by Eastern Federal Theatres on November 22, 1991. It was expanded to 12 screens on December 21, 1994. It was closed in April 2004.
It is no longer a functioning full time movie theatre. It is now known as Waltrip Racing World and is a race shop that houses the NEXTEL Cup and Busch Series teams of Michael Waltrip Racing. Waltrip plans on keeping one of the 12 screens operational.

I used to work there when it was still Movies at the Lake. I’ve visited the place once since Waltrip Racing World opened. If one of the screens is still operational, which is a possibility, it’s most likely in the back of the building. An interesting bit of trivia is that screen #12 (we called them auditoriums) was located in the exact spot where the gift shop is now.
I saw ‘Interview with the Vampire’ at this theatre. I live in Winston, I have no idea why my aunt took me all the way out here to see the movie, but I think it was because she was meeting a blind date :–)
