You have this listed in the wrong city. This is theater that was in Homer City, PA which is south of Indiana, PA. It was located on North Main St between Station St and Miller Av on the east side of the street. As a child visiting my Grandma there, I remember it being used by a church. The only theater in Indiana, PA is the Indiana Theater on Philadelphia St.
I did not notice that the theater has the correct address on this page, but is incorrectly listed on the Pennsylvania guide page. And I erred in saying the Indiana was the only theater in Indiana, PA. I had forgotten about the Manos theater.
I asked my Mom about this, and yes it was the Empire Theater. In fact she says it was always the Empire Theater, and never known as the Homer Theater. Perhaps the listing should be changed.
Browsing through the movie ads in the Indiana Evening Gazette for 1959, the only theater listed for Homer City is called the Homer Theater (not the Empire), so it must have been called that at one time. I would guess that Homer City was too small to have two theaters, so they must be one and the same. The Indiana area in those days also had 2 drive-ins, the Super 422 and the Palace Gardens.
I have owned various paper ads and movie posters from this theater, and it has been known as The Empire and The Homer. I do not know the chain of ownership, but this was the same theater property. It was heavily damaged by a major flood in 1977, and was demolished in 1983. It was used by a church during the late 60’s and early 70’s
The Empire Theatre Opened As Early As 1925. It Became The Homer Theatre On April 28, 1947 And The Homer Installed CinemaScope On October 23, 1954. Yes It Was Lastly Known As The Homer Theatre.
