This theater has closed….everything was taken by the county and auctioned off. https://www.hillstax.org/assets/uploads/2020/09/T0420136340_seizure_advertisement_August_31_2020_19_50_29.pdf
So my husband and I went to this theater a few months ago ( 32 years after our first date at Main Street theater in 1986). We saw The Commuter with Bruce Willis (fitting – an 80’s guy) and ordered some food, which was ok. The place was not really like I remembered from back in the 80’s, but it has been remodeled and is nice inside. Not sure when I’ll be back (I live 30 mins north), but it was a fun trip down memory lane.

I remember seeing “Fatal Attraction” here back in 1987. It was showing in the larger theatre in the front on the left. The auditorium was packed except for the first 4 or 5 rows. When the film ended and the audience headed for the exits I noticed a huge pool of water covering the floor and extending from the front to about the 4th row. Surprisingly the final showing that evening was not cancelled. Had the proper authorities known about it I suspect management would have been forced to shut the auditorium down.
The theatre reopened earlier this year as Villagio Cinemas of Carrollwood featuring stadium seating, six auditoriums, an Italian restaurant, in-theatre dinning, and an upscale bar and lounge.
Before it was a Carmike it was a Cineplex Odeon run theatre, this was the last location that I worked for the company before Carmike took over. I was head projectionist there and worked it for about 4 years. Upstairs was pretty solid but downstairs had some issues, primarily with leakage, suffered from water damage whenever it rained heavily-primarily in the front auditoriums-I also cleaned the theatres overnight which was interesting. Behind the theatre there was what I could best describe as a wooded swampy area and especially after a good rain the frogs would come out in force….followed by snakes and raccoons-it was avirtual “Wild Kingdom” there at times-but fun nonetheless.
This theater will always hold a special place in my heart, as my husband and I went on our first date there in 1986 at age 16! It was Stand by Me, kind of an odd movie for a first date, but it fit our personalities pretty well! And here we are, 27 years later, been married 19 years and still going strong! I can’t hear the song Stand by Me without thinking of that date and the old Main Street theater! I have not been to the new one yet, but plan to soon!
Theaters open, and is a 6 screen… NICE place, by far the nicest theater in Tampa. All seats are extremely comfortable motorized recliners, ticket prices are below Cobb CineBistro, with a full bar, and food service in the theaters…. Went there tonight, andI was more than impressed…
Theater is opening tonight, http://tbo.com/new-movie-theater-opens-in-carrollwood-20130606/.
It got postponed again, but they were supposed to open today. No idea when it’s opening now. I was hired on to manage this location but left because it wasn’t a good fit. Mike – It will be 6 screens, the plan was to only open with 5 though. Last theater still needed laminate flooring and seats installed.
Great news. Status above need to be updated to open and if I rememebr corretly without going through all the posts it is now 5 screens
Theater is opening today.
Should be opening mid-April.

Mike,
This theater will have leather reclining chairs with ottomans, tables and buttons for table service.. Nothing will be non-digital, and it will truly be classy, BUT WITHOUT the huge classy prices!
He wants to keep it affordable so people will actually come back more than once a year for anniversaries and birthdays. It is themed Tuscany and resembles a village interior, and will have a plaza style bistro seating area.
The 4 smaller houses are seat ready and wired ready to go, one of the large theaters has the steel risers in place waiting for concrete, and the 6th auditorium is being used for storage right now.
about 8-10 weeks out. no info on a website update yet. Chuck
This is great news. I hope they are opening with digital projectors and soudn system
Spoke with the owner YESTERDAY 8/22/12 and finishings are going on right now, and the seats have been ordered for delivery in the next few weeks.
Other equipment has been in storage for a while now, but the theater is set to open in 8-10 weeks, and events have already been booked for November. The opening will be 4 of the 6 auditoriums and the 2 largest houses will open shortly after.
There will be 2 types of concessions in the lobby where you will order and pick up at a counter at the bar, They will be Mexican and Italian. Then you will have seat service in the auditoriums.
Excitement is in the air, and things are finally at the stage of finishing the details and getting it done at this point!
Is this theater ever going to open again?
Was by this theater a few weeks ago, which has changed names due to a copyright issue, and there seems to be forward progress.
It looks like they have re-done the drywall, and they were pouring concrete for the stadium seating, it also looked like they were working on the front of the building.
I have emailed the owner but did not get a responce as to a new opening date, but I WOULD ASSUME that they will bust a$$ to get it open by Memorial Day, which is obtainable if the issues have been resolved and they are in a forward motion!
Ya I am not sure what is happening I was told that everything is in storage and ready to go in, but construction delays and the landlord are holding it back.. All I can say is RENT CREDIT and I hope he’s not paying anything right now either if he is waiting for the owner of the building and dealing with insurance companies. Opening after X-Mas is death till summer! Chuck
Still not open. They changed the name of the new theater, but the old sign is still on the front of the theater.
Has anything happened with this theater. Is it open or did the whole deal fall through?
Talked with the owner last week, and the Restaurant/Bar next door should be open the 8th. They are having Issues with the landlords insurance companies that are dragging their feet with repairs from roof damage and other water related issues. All the A/C and roof has been replaced, and the equipment is in warehouse storage waiting to go in once the insurance adjusters pay out on the claims at hand. Expected opening date is ASAP. Chuck
