It got postponed again, but they were supposed to open today. No idea when it’s opening now. I was hired on to manage this location but left because it wasn’t a good fit. Mike – It will be 6 screens, the plan was to only open with 5 though. Last theater still needed laminate flooring and seats installed.
Theater is opening tonight, http://tbo.com/new-movie-theater-opens-in-carrollwood-20130606/.
Theaters open, and is a 6 screen… NICE place, by far the nicest theater in Tampa. All seats are extremely comfortable motorized recliners, ticket prices are below Cobb CineBistro, with a full bar, and food service in the theaters…. Went there tonight, andI was more than impressed…
This theater will always hold a special place in my heart, as my husband and I went on our first date there in 1986 at age 16! It was Stand by Me, kind of an odd movie for a first date, but it fit our personalities pretty well! And here we are, 27 years later, been married 19 years and still going strong! I can’t hear the song Stand by Me without thinking of that date and the old Main Street theater! I have not been to the new one yet, but plan to soon!
Before it was a Carmike it was a Cineplex Odeon run theatre, this was the last location that I worked for the company before Carmike took over. I was head projectionist there and worked it for about 4 years. Upstairs was pretty solid but downstairs had some issues, primarily with leakage, suffered from water damage whenever it rained heavily-primarily in the front auditoriums-I also cleaned the theatres overnight which was interesting. Behind the theatre there was what I could best describe as a wooded swampy area and especially after a good rain the frogs would come out in force….followed by snakes and raccoons-it was avirtual “Wild Kingdom” there at times-but fun nonetheless.
I remember seeing “Fatal Attraction” here back in 1987. It was showing in the larger theatre in the front on the left. The auditorium was packed except for the first 4 or 5 rows. When the film ended and the audience headed for the exits I noticed a huge pool of water covering the floor and extending from the front to about the 4th row. Surprisingly the final showing that evening was not cancelled. Had the proper authorities known about it I suspect management would have been forced to shut the auditorium down.
The theatre reopened earlier this year as Villagio Cinemas of Carrollwood featuring stadium seating, six auditoriums, an Italian restaurant, in-theatre dinning, and an upscale bar and lounge.
This opened as the Plitt Mainstreet 6 on December 9th, 1983. Article:

So my husband and I went to this theater a few months ago ( 32 years after our first date at Main Street theater in 1986). We saw The Commuter with Bruce Willis (fitting – an 80’s guy) and ordered some food, which was ok. The place was not really like I remembered from back in the 80’s, but it has been remodeled and is nice inside. Not sure when I’ll be back (I live 30 mins north), but it was a fun trip down memory lane.
This theater has closed….everything was taken by the county and auctioned off. https://www.hillstax.org/assets/uploads/2020/09/T0420136340_seizure_advertisement_August_31_2020_19_50_29.pdf
