Located on Broadway at 16th Street, the Plaza Theater was opened on September 15, 1917 with Gail Kane in “Souls in Pawn”. It was closed in March 1970. It was converted into retail on the ground floor and apartments above.

The March 16, 1970 issue of Boxoffice had a brief item saying that the Square Amusement Company of New York had announced that the Plaza Theatre in Bayonne had been shuttered and would not operate as a movie theater again.

The Plaza Theatre at Bayonne was mentioned in the trade journal Motion Picture News in September, 1925, and it was listed in the 1926 FDY, though with only 500 seats.

The marquee of the theater was demolished in 1970, however, the rest of the building still stands. The building has been repurposed in the 1970’s as apartments on the upper floors and 2 storefronts on the ground level.
