The Globe was Elgin’s first movie house. It was built in a converted grocery store on South Grove Avenue in 1907.

Before this theater existed, short films were being shown at the DuBois Opera House, which was located not too far from the Globe.

The first films shown here only lasted about an hour which consisted of three comic reels which ran about ten minutes per reel. Movies were shown using a hand-cranked projector.
