The Elbert Theatre opened on February 23, 1940. By 1943 it was operated by Paramount Pictures Inc. through their subsidiary Lucas & Jenkins. The roof was damaged by a fire on August 8, 1950 and reopened in November 1950. It was closed in 1967 and became a youth center. It was taken over by the City of Elberton in 1989. Renovations began in 1997 and it reopened as a performing arts facility in 2001. The theatre is used for live theatre as well as for first-run movies.
