Frank Theatres Towne Stadium 16

Opened as a twin on October 17, 1969 with Anouk Aimee in “Justine” & Peter Fonda in “Easy Rider”. It became a 4-screen theater on July 6, 1973. Owned by Frank Theaters, this theater went through drastic renovations in 2004 due to a popper fire. The Towne was originally two complexes, I and II, but when renovated it was all worked into one. In winter of 2005, due to many, many, many projector problems, the Franks finally installed brand new projectors and the booth looked beautiful.

The box office was located outside but when it gets cold, they put it in the guest services desk. The concession stand is long with five registers. The lobby features a full arcade and clean bathrooms. It was closed for remodeling in January 2019, but never reopened. It had been demolished by 2022.

I heard the Towne Complex is for sale. I think the only Frank Theatre remaining open is the CineBowl & Grille in Delray Beach Florida.

Egg Harbor Twp. (Cardiff). Not Egg Harbor City.

Can we get some kind of update on what’s going on here? The last thing I heard, several years ago, was that Al Frank passed away. I’m a former film projectionist & worked here between the end of 1986 to (probably) late 1990. Just curious - whatever happened to Eric Horn, huh?

Jaws played here all summer in 1975. The Atlantic Drive In which was part of the complex closed at the end of the 73 season as did many Atlantic City theaters.

A chronology of the Atlantic City region’s 70mm presentations history has recently been published. The Towne 12/16 gets some mentions in the piece.
