The Columbus Theatre was opened on December 26, 1926 with Virginia Valli in “The Family Upstairs”. In 1948 it was remodeled to the plans of Ses Moines, IA based architectural firm Wetherell & Harrison. The Columbus Theatre was still open in 1957. The building sat shuttered (minus its marquee) in 2018 and this was still the case in 2022.

The groundbreaking for the Columbus Theatre was reported in the May 27, 1926, issue of The Lincoln Star. Local investors in Columbus were building the house, which had been leased to the World Realty Co., theater operators of Omaha.
