All during the 1970’s I would sometimes pass the venerable Sigmond Theatre whenever I drove through Lexington on my way out to Lake Thunderbird.
This small town cinema was built on the site of the Sigmund Nickelodeon. The Sigmund Theatre was opened in 1935 at the corner of E. Broadway Street and N. Main Street. It was a corner lot movie house situated inside the ground floor of a two story, Western-style structure with a walk up hotel on the second floor.
The Sigmond exterior was painted clean white, outlined in bright yellow. To the right of a stud lighted boxoffice were two sets of French lobby doors, with another set around the corner. Carved wood framed display cases were still intact, and it looked as if this little cinema could re-open on a moments notice, but it never did.
It is currently in use as Massengale’s Furniture Store.

Due to its corner location on Main & Broadway, the Sigmond address could be listed as One Main, or One Broadway. Both would be correct.
Today Massingale Furniture Store occupies this former cinema.
This is what the former Sigmond Theatre looks like these days on (photo right) google maps,
