It’s a shame we’re going to be losing this screen. It seemed like a pretty decent theater. I only went to see two movies there, both in IMAX: “Sully” and the IMAX presentation of “Marvel’s Inhumans,” where I experienced the digital equivalent of the film breaking in the projector.

Somehow the digital stream got corrupted and it eventually locked things up about five minutes into “Inhumans.” I think they finally fixed for showings the next day, but they might have cancelled all other showings after mine until they could fix the problem. I really miss the days when all you had to do was splice the print together and get it running again in ten minutes or so…

Jesus. Only open sixteen years? Doesn’t seem like much for such a large capital investment. But then again Golf Mill looked like it was on life support last time I was through there.

Slated to close - too bad as this was a nice theater with traditional seats, big screens, no projection problems.

As this now an AMC theater, go to the AMC website: and search for the theater using its zipcode of 60714.

How do I find out what’s playing at this theater?

I’ll be checking out the new Showplace at Galewood tomorrow. They’re showing movies for free before noon. I’ll give everybody a report when I get back.

Passed it yesterday. Looks nice from the outside anyway.

I went here on Saturday. Great place, classy atmosphere. However, a few seconds of Casino Royale were spliced in upside down. The free refills are a nice touch. I think this place gives, say, Century Evanston a run for its money. Definitely the best in the immediate area. At least until Muvico Rosemont Walk rolls in.

Humm, I ment to say, I found the theatre to be really great for a megaplex.

Also, I went to see “Deja Vu” here last Sunday for free. We caught the 10am showing and got free popcorn and free pop with it. We were in auditorium #7, which looks just like auditorium #1.

Here’s my info on Showplace @ Golf Mill.

found the theatre to be really great for a megaplex. The design is a departure from Kerasotes older designs, which is a good thing if you ask me. The box office and entrance is around the back of the mall. The entrance and ticket booth is very identical to River East, the lobby is very spacious and has a lot of cream color and a bit of brown in there(from what I can remember right now). The bathroom’s got a lot of toilets and stalls to make sure nobody has to wait. And now for the auditoriums: I was in theatre 1, one of the “big units”. The screen could’ve been a lot larger, but that could’ve cut into the parking spaces. The seats are indentical to River East(red cushion, black backs), except Showplace 12’s are a bit wider and longer. The walls have red and black drapes/padding with lights on them. The sound was perfect, just what I hoped for. “Happy Feet” was in theatre 2, the second “big unit”. Before we left, I snuck into #3, which was playing “let’s go to Prison”. That room is almost like a medium screen at Randhurst or River East.

All in all, I highly recomend it. It was worth the 30 miles we drove to get there. I will return. While it probably won’t hold up with the original Golf Mill’s huge screen and style, it’s a wonderfull replacement. More that what you could hope for in this day and age of shoeboxes being put up. I just wish the “big units” were a little bigger. But it’s okay though. But if the design of Showplace 16 @ Roosvelt Collection is anywhere near Shoplace @ Golf Mill’s, then that place is gonna rock. Now if Kerasotes could just give Webster Place the remodel it deverves…..But that’s for another story.

Opening day movies include: “Casino Royale” and “Happy Feet” (in the “big units”). Others include “Saw III”, “The Prestige”, “The Santa Clause 3”, “Borat”, “The Departed”, “Horrorfest – 8 Movies To Die For” and “Let’s Go To Prison”.

Scratch that, 459 in the largest 2, 129 in the smallest.

Broan on November 19, 2006 at 7:51 pm

The full capacity is claimed as 3264, and the ‘big units’ actually are closer to 460 seats.
