Opened as a Jerry Lewis Cinema opened May 27, 1971 with Dick Van Dyke & Bob Newhart in “Cold Turkey”. It was described as ‘a luxury theatre offering family entertainment in a plush, beautiful setting with roomy seating and all the niceties one could desire’. It was located at the Hickory Trace Shopping Center on S. Cork Avenue at 85th Street.
By early-1973 it had been renamed Cork Cinema, still screening first run movies. By early-1974 it was an adult cinema, which operated until the early-1980’s.

Bryan, as soon as I saw Justice IL and Cork Theatre something clicked in my memory. As a kid, in 1948 we moved to the edge of Chicago, I’d say about 8 miles from this site. I don’t think I ever went to this theatre, but I seem to remember hearing about it and not because it was an adult theatre. It might be much older then the early Seventies or perhaps my memory is just all mixed up.
The Cork Theater actually became a bonafied adult movie theater, and it was not raunchy or run down. It was clean and well kept inside. The thing is, it was in a strip mall setting and that put it in close proximity to other bussinesses nearby and that would eventually lead to it’s demise.
