Opened on November 1, 1985, this was a smallish (by AMC standards) six-plex. It was located across from Oak Park Mall, where AMC also had a six-plex theater until the late-1990’s when the mall was remodeled. It was a wonderful small theater until it got eclipsed by the megaplex boom. Its siblings were the Metro North Plaza and Bannister 6. It was closed on August 27, 2006.
Incidentally, AMC originally had plans to expand Oak Park Plaza (or build on vacant land next door) to 20 or 24 screens. They instead were forced (by neighborhood opposition) to move down I-35 to Olathe and build Studio 30. There is now a Target where the bigger theater would have gone.
