The Capitol Theatre was opened prior to 1937. By 1941 the Capitol Theatre was operated by the Crescent Amusement Co. It was still open in 1957.

I lived in Madisonville in the 1970s and remember going to the movie at the Capital Theatre ..then they opened the two theatres out by the shopping center ..wasn’t the same … and the theatre became a parking lot .. these days would be nice to have it as a reminder how great movies use to be
This opened on February 28th, 1930. Grand opening ad in the photo section. Had a “colored” balcony.

History: This opened as the Morton Opera House in December 1900 and renamed Garrick in 1912. On July 12th, 1928 the Garrick theatre burns down. It was rebuilt and reopened on February 28th, 1930 as the Capitol theatre, which closed on November 20th, 1974. It was at the NE Corner of Union & Cardwell.
