The 1941 and 1943 editions of Film Daily Yearbook list a Lyons Theatre with 200 seats.
In the 1950 edition of F.D.Y. it lists a Lyon Theatre, E. Lake Street with a seating capacity of 404.
Could it be possible these are the South Lyon Theater?
LostMemory;It looks like there could have been at least a couple of theatres here. In the book ‘Michigan’s Small Town Movie Theatre’s’ by Michael V. Doyal the history of the building in your recent photograph above is apparently: Built in 1889 Seating 199. Beginning first as a funeral home, later a furniture store the building finally became a movie theatre in 1969. It is still open at 126 East Lake Street.
Or maybe that 1969 date is incorrect?
Hello everyone. I am the proud new owner of the South Lyon Theater. The original name was “The Lyon”. So yes they are one in the same. However, since I am doing a complete interior renovation i am reverting back to the original name “The Lyon” I am in despreate need of some pictures from the era this was built. est. 1939. Much appreciated.
According to its official website http://www.thelyon.com/ the theatre opened in December 1945, although its official grand opening wasn’t until January 25, 1946. There wss an older theatre called the Lyons Theatre that was across the street from the Lyon.

Hi I am now the current owner of the Lyon Theater as of Dec 1, 2015, we are remodeling again .. new seats and carpet.
