The 500-seat Lido Theatre was opened on February 28, 1930 with the ‘talkie’ “The Hollywood Revue” starring Conrad Nagel. It promoted itself as “Manitoba’s Finest Atmospheric Theatre”. It retains the original auditorium to this day. One of the oldest Atmospheric style theatres that were still operating in Canada. The Lido Theatre was independently operated and has always been. One of the only known fourth generation movie houses in Canada. The Lido Theatre remained a hub of cinema entertainment in The Pas, Manitoba, Canada. A first run movie house that is truly one of a kind. Complete with an orchestra pit and backstage dressing rooms. It was closed by 2013.
It was destroyed by fire on April 4, 2024.

The Lido Theatre is listed in the Film Daily Yearbook;1943 edition with a seating capacity given as 500.
This theatre was designed by my Grandfather.
A beautiful little theatre. I have never been there but would love to check it out. Its gorgeous.

We are currently investigating the possibility of the Lido Theatre being recognized as the longest running and oldest operating Atmospheric theatre in the world.
We are fairly certain that it is the oldest in Canada, the longest running in North America. Likewise, we are fairly certain that it is the only Atmospheric theatre to survive without public funds of any kind and all along the way being owned by the same family.
Guinness World Records recognizes the Duke of York in Brighton, UK. as the oldest purpose built cinema in the world. The Duke was built in 1910. Using that as a basis, we are attempting to establish whether or not the Lido Theatre is the oldest operating atmospheric and longest running atmospheric. The Duke of York has not always remained, nor is it now, an atmospheric cinema.
