From “A Pictorial History of the Forest City Area, Pennsylvania” (Volume 1, page 33):
“Days of silent movies at Freedman Theater. Pictured from left (see link), Max, Tillie, Sarah, and Pop Freedman, Jacob Houman, who ran the movie projector, David Allen Cohen, son of Sarah. Theater was opened in 1925 by Julius Freedman, father-in-law of S.J. "Roxy” Rothapfel. It closed for a short time in the 1930’s then re-opened by Comerford Corp. in June 1937. Tillie Freedman managed it from its opening until succeeded by Walter Yanovich, then Charles “Nip” Carrol. Building supervision for many years was by John “Pop” Adler. It closed April 13, 1958. After years of disuse it was remodeled into St. Paul’s Court apartments by Walter Sample. It was sold in March 1988 and burned in a disastrous fire January 1995".
Before the fire, the front of the building vaguely resembled the photo. The marquee, awning, and sign were gone, but the structure remained the same. The fire that destroyed the building was one of the largest in Forest City history. Was inside the building (as apartments) once. I believe it was senior citizen housing. Since the fire, the remaining structure was demolished and the site remains empty.
