Opened as Regal Drive-In on August 12th, 1951 “for Negros” and closed in late 1952. It reopened as the 231 Drive-In “For White Patronage only” on April 3rd, 1953. 1953 grand opening ad posted.

Boxoffice, Feb. 15, 1960: “The 231 Drive-In, Huntsville, Ala., was shuttered for a week due to wind damage to the screen tower. The 231 is a R. C. Cobb circuit situation.”

Mister Comics you are correct on layout of both drive-ins. I’m surprise they did not open the Parkway at the old location of the 231 DI.

The 231 was not a twin drive-in. What you are seeing in the aerial view is the Parkway Drive-In that was butted up next to the 231 drive-In.

Plus, the twinned drive in appears on the 1968, 1976 and 1982 topographical maps which would indicate that it was open after 1960.

I would submit the possibility of either the information or the location being wrong in some manner.
