Opened December 22, 1967, the Hudson Plaza had a grand foyer as well as about 1,500 seats in its large auditorium. In its role as a modern movie palace, the theatre even contained a grand staircase. The design standards at the Hudson Plaza were quite high for the 1970’s, and in many ways it seemed more like an old style palace than a modern multiplex. A second screen was added on December 22, 1972. It was reopened by Magic Cinemas on April 5, 1996 with 7-screens, but losing all of its 1970’s-era opulence.
In 2015 it is operated by Empire Cineplex Cinemas. It had closed by 2018.

The Hudson Plaza Cinema opened on December 22, 1967, according to an item in Boxoffice Magazine’s issue of January 1, 1968. It was one of five new theaters opened across the country by General Cinema on the same day.
Many fond memories here when this was a Twin Theater in the 70s and 80s. Among the films I saw “The Empire Strikes Back”, “Altered States”, “Clash of the Titans”, “Return of the Jedi”, “Gremlins”, “Enemy Mine”, “Aliens”, “Crocodile Dundee”, “Star Trek IV”, “Hot Shots”, “Ricochet” and “Beastmaster II”, few others. I haven’t been to this cinema in 20 years, I remember it being getting to be pretty grimey, have they cleaned it up?
This theater is closed once again. Bad booking and not getting the top movies did not generate enough revenue for this theater. Also BCG gave back the lease back to Nelson Page who owns http://bigscreenclassics.com
And it’s back!
They should get recliners soon like Newport.

Sorry to hear this theatre closed. It was a great place to see a movie once upon a time. It was a modern and well run presentation house. Professional. It slowly faded over time.
Reopened by Magic Cinemas on April 5th, 1996, with 7 screens. Grand opening ad posted
