The Hollywood Theatre was opened in 1937 with George O'Brien in “Daniel Boone”. It was closed in the 1960’s. The Hollywood Sandwich Shop was the concession for the theatre, and it operated until 2011. The building is now office space for an attorney.

Recently found a photo of this theatre. The 2-story front shows modest tapestry brickwork, 3-over-1 double hung sashes in the 2nd story windows complete with stripped canvas awnings. The marquee did not have changable letter boards – only the name Hollywood spelled out in single-stroke neon and a pair of horizontal neon stripes. The marquee seems to have had 3 (!) metal columns at the curb – the center one also held the downspout for the marquee roof. In the (apparently mid-1950’s) photo, a round Coca Cola sign has been mounted on top of the marque. There are no outstanding architectural features but it is a solidly handsome little building. A fine, small town theatre.
According to the friend who shared the photo, the Hollywood was built in 1936 replacing an earlier theatre. The Hollywood has itself since been torn down and a new-ish commercial building stands on this site.
Any photos anyone?
The Hollywood Theatre building still exists in Morgantown,Ky. It is occupied by a commercial business.
In the 1950’s I attended the Hollywood, usually on Saturday, to See the Durango Kid and a Three Stooges short. Admission was 14 cents for kids and 34 cents adult. The adjacent Hollywood Sandwich Shop closed in 2013.
Dannh- yes, you’re right. I just looked at Google Earth and the building is still standing and occupied by a law office. (Seems like it would be a rather dark law office.) Thanks for the update.
Correct address is 119 N. Main St. The date stone on the building says 1935. Did this theater open that year or was it a later conversion of a retail business?
