I have some sad news regarding the Starlite / Carmike Cinemas 7. It appears that Carmike Cinemas is reluctant to convert this theatre over to digital projection when the changeover occurs in 2013. As a result, the building is once again for sale (though continuing operations), and is ONLY being offered to those who would not utilize the property for movie showings.

According to a supervisor I spoke with, the theatre narrowly avoided closure last month, as it was slated to shut down and be demolished to make way for an Olive Garden. Olive Garden pulled out at the last minute, but Carmike continues to shop the building to potential buyers.

This is the time where the assistance of this community of cinema lovers is most needed. This theatre’s future is very uncertain, with the most likely outcome being a shutdown by mid-2013. If we wish to have this building saved, Carmike Cinemas needs to be convinced to invest in digital projection for this theatre, or a new buyer who will not raze the theatre needs to be found. Perhaps a community effort or a write-in campaign to save the theatre would help. Here is a link to Carmike Cinemas' contact information:

Any suggestions or effort that can be made to save this cinema is certainly welcome. I will try to do my part locally to raise awareness of this theatre’s precarious position, and try to inform the community of why it is worth saving.

I am sad to report that as of August 8, 2014, the Carmike 7 has closed and interior demolition has begun.

Google street views from 2016 indicate this theatre was demolished.
