Apparently fairly recently closed, the Kino Alfa is located in the basement of a small arcade off Wenceslas Square in the heart of the city.

According to one paper on Czech cinema, this at one time was the most profitable cinema in the country. I would judge from an exterior viewing only, that the Alfa is on two levels (both underground) and possibly around 600-800 seats. Cinemas do not appear to have had particularly large seating capacities here, so maybe there is some truth in the financial statement.

PRAGUE-The Alfa Theater recently booked and advertised a program of four OWI documentaries. A Popeye short, “Seeing Red, White and Blue”, confused with OWI’s “Red, White and Blue” was among the documentaries.
At the first showing, the manager announced that another documentary would replace Popeye. Protests were riotous. Police were called. The next day, in response to public and press demand, Popeye was restored.
