I saw the first theatrical re-release of “The Manchurian Candidate” at the Park, which at the time featured both an external and internal rectangularist decoration scheme in the mode of the modern artist Piet Mondrian. Very ‘50’s modern.

Here’s a pretty great write-up on the Capri:

Take a look at the view on Google if you want to see how they incorporated the facade into the condos.

In the 1970’s (starting around 1975), the Mitchell Brothers (of Behind the Green Door fame) operated this as a porn theater.

To see what the San Diego Egyptian ORIGINALLY looked like when it was first built in 1926 go to…..

The San Diego Egyptian facade (in slightly streamlined form) is being retained for a condominium development being completed on Park Boulevard. There is a clear and large artist’s rendering of the building available on the following link……

Theater lovers were not happy to lose the beautiful theater, but at least we have the facade.. that’s more than most developments are doing.

I found an older news article about this theater which explains in good detail what will be done with the old theater.

This theater was also called the “Fox Egyptian” during the 1930s. It was a beautiful theater even in it’s last remodelling. The theater was broad and wide. It was outfitted with Todd-A-O for “Around the World in 80 Days” in 1954. There are several Egyptian themed apartment buildings in the area built in the 1920s, and this was the focal point of the street. A small part of it’s facade, so much a part of the neighborhood landscape, is being kept for the new condominium project.
