Located in Radcliff, Lancashire, today part of Greater Manchester. The Odeon was built for and operated by Oscar Deutsch’s Odeon Theatres Ltd. chain and was opened on 14th August 1937 with Clark Gable in “San Francisco”.
Designed in a simple but effective Art Deco style, seating was provided for 822 in the stalls and 316 in the balcony on a semi-stadium plan that had no overhanging balcony, just a separate raised section at the rear.
Radcliffe is located only two miles away from Bury where Odeon already had built an Odeon a year earlier. The Odeon Radcliffe was an early casualty due to the down-turn in cinema admissions when television was introduced.
It closed on 27th April 1957 with Victor Mature in “Zarak”. The building was converted into retail use as a supermarket. It became a Tesco supermarket in 1968 and a Kwick Save supermarket from 1974 which closed on 20th March 2004. The building lay empty until November 2005 when it was demolished to make way for a new developement on the site.

I worked here for a short time around 1972 when it was the Tesco Supermarket, happy memories. Really nice to see these photos of the building, thanks for sharing :)
