Durwood Theatres Inc. opened the Durwood Metro 4 on December 8, 1966. It was the worlds' first 4-screen cinema to open. Taken over by AMC, they closed it on September 17, 1975. It was taken over by Guy-Con Theatres and reopened on December 17, 1976, but closed on June 21, 1977. AMC took it back and it reopened on August 17, 1979. It closed in 1982.
It has since been gutted for retail use.

I received my first kiss in this theater. The theater location is now a social security office. It was located in the 1600 block of 63rd St. on the north side of the street in the Metro Plaza Shopping Center which is still there.
Actually the Parkway Twin, which was opened by AMC in Kansas City in 1962 was their first multiplex. But this was certainly one of the earliest.
This is the first 4-plex in the world.
