Known as the Progress Theatre, this location exhibited motion pictures at least as early as 1919. By 1938, it was operating as the New Progress Theatre.

Listed in the American Motion Picture Directory;1914-1915 edition. The address given in that publication is 1894 3rd Avenue, New York, NY.
Various editions of Film Daily Yearbook list this as the Progress Theatre and give several seating capacities;1926=600 seats, 1930=535 seats, 1941=530 seats, 1943=530 seats (Closed).
The next edition of F.D.Y. that I have is the 1950 edition where it has disappeared from the listings. Did it re-open for a while after it’s 1943 closure and was re-named New Progress Theatre?
This building is still there, I noticed it as a theater building. It appears to have been converted into stores at some point. Unfortately, i didn’t have my camera with me.
During a search for family information I located a copy of my grandfather’s WWI Draft Registration Card. It is dated June 5, 1917 and it lists his occupation as a Musician at the Progress Theatre, 1894 3rd Ave, NYC. I would like to find more information or photos (new or old) of the theatre. Can anyone help?
Sorry to report that the former New Progress/Progress Theatre is not there. Currently at that address 1892-1894 Third Avenue is a single storey Rite Aid store which was built in 1957.
Are you sure this theater is demolished? This isn’t the side of a theater?

That sure looks like a theatre, Bway.
The New Progress appears in the Film Daily Yearbook for 1941 but not in 1942.
That Regines store in the Google map above sure looks like a theatre building.
I agree, Al. However, NYC records indicate that the Regines structure was already approved for use by “stores and factory” in 1927, according to the more legible of two certificates of occupancy available for online viewing. The other, older c of o also seems to indicate 1st floor usage as a store and is dated in the 1920’s – but the last digit in the year is illegible. The structure currently situated at 1892 Third Avenue was built new as a 1-story store in 1957.
So, assuming the address above is correct for the Progress Theatre, it seems to have been demolished over 50 years ago.
