Grand opening ad: State Theatre opening Sat, Nov 5, 1921 – Page 14 · The Scranton Republican (Scranton, Lackawanna, Pennsylvania, United States of America) · Newspapers.com
The November 7, 1921, issue of The Scranton Republican reported that the opening of the Comerford chain’s new State Theatre the previous Saturday, November 5, had been a great success.
Though it gives the address of the proposed theater as 211 Wyoming Avenue, this item from The American Contractor of May 14, 1921, is probably about the State Theatre:
Leon Lempert Jr. designed many theaters for Comerford Amusement Co. during this period. The December 3, 1921, issue of Exhibitors Trade Review noted the recent opening of Michael Comerford’s State Theatre in Scranton. The Miles Theatre, which in 1923 would become Comerford’s Capitol Theatre, had been opened by H. S. Miles about the same time.
