This is a typical small town single screen theatre dating from 1927, it operated until at least 1950. A photoplayer was installed. The theatre was movies-only, no stage, no balcony.
It re-opened in March 2005, screening first run movies. Sadly it was closed in November 2009.

That’s a shame….how much does cost to actually GET a 1st-run movie to show at a theatre? I wouldn’t think people would show up to watch 2nd-run movies. They want to see them as soon as they’re out.

I’m Bill,the current owner of the Dallas Theater…sadly the theater is going up for auction Wednesday April 28th at 5pm,we’re having an open house Sunday April 18th from 2pm to 4pm…I would LOVE to see someone buy this who loves old theaters but rumor is that it’s about to become a gym or a church or a parking lot…
so whoever wants to save old theaters this is your chance
we tried to keep it going as long as we could,we’re not rich people and we just ran out of money
I also wanted to thank everyone here for their kind comments,a brand new movie costs between 50 and 60 percent of ticket sales,which isn’t too expensive as long as you’re doing well on concession sales,the problem we ran into was this:kids movies that we showed on opening night did great,but kids movies don’t always get released every week,so sometimes we had to show either a kids movie that was 3 or 4 weeks old or a non-kids movie,on those nights attendance was bad,had I had a 2nd job we’d still be open for business,but the theater was my family’s only income,and I worked 6 days a week and didn’t have time for a 2nd job,this place is great for a family with more than one income

The Dallas WAS open for a while circa 1999-2000. Saw “Rocky Horror” there three times in mid-2000. This is indeed a lovely theatre; sad to see it couldn’t be kept running.
Does anyone know the status of the theater was it bought at auction?
I went to the Dallas many times in the mid 1960s and saw great B grade monster and sci fi movies like First Men in the Moon, Robinson Crusoe on Mars, Crack in the World and a lot of Vincent Price, Mummy and Creature movies. For the better movies, like James Bond or Jerry Lewis films, we went into York to the Capitol or Strand. The Dallas was great, though – very kid oriented. Every Christmas they gave out a small box of chocolates and an orange. It was a happening place on Friday nights for a 10 year old. As far as I can recall, it stayed open well into the 70s. I learned to love movies here.
Sad to report I walked past it tonight and looked in the windows and its been completely gutted.
