I’ve had pretty good experiences with AMC since they bought Carmike. As for marquees and newspaper ads, they’ve become unnecessary. AMC has their problems, but they’re one of the better companies operating theaters today, at least based on my experience.

If I may speculate, my guess is the lease arrangement was much more favorable across the street at the University Place. Plus AMC had put some money into the University Place as well. If one had to go, it made sense that it was this one.

I agree. AMC was a great chain for all the years I loved in Florida. I think since the Chinese corporation bought them they are a fly by night chain. I was so happy when they purchased the Carmike chain. Well, the theater was bad enough when Carmike had it, it has gotten even worse since AMC took over in March of 2017. I refuse to ever go there again.

Did AMC ever give the reason why they closed this theater? Makes no sense to close their newest theater, at 16 years old and leave the much older Univerity Place 8 (31 years old) open…

If anything is a true definition of a “fly by night” outfit, it’s AMC Theaters. Taking down the outside signs that advertise shows, taking the showtimes out of the local newspapers.
