AMC Classic Governor's Square 10

Governor’s Square 5 opened December 9, 1988 as a Rand Theatre five-screen complex. It was closed October 8, 1989 for non-payment of taxes. It was reopened on February 2, 1990 by Carmike as Cinema V. On May 6, 2005 it was expanded to ten screens. It was closed by AMC on August 25, 2024. In January 2025 it was announced that Phoenix Theatres wll be reopening the theatre with 5-screens in summer 2025.

I worked on the retrofit of the new 5 auditoriums really an improvement. The retro was finished in Apr. 2005

UPDATE: This opened on December 9th, 1988 as Governor’s Square Mall cinemas with 5 screens by the infamous Rand Theatres. It closed on October 8th, 1989 for not paying state taxes. Ir reopened by Carmike Cinemas on February 2nd, 1990 as Cinema V.

Clarksvillenow.com reports that AMC will be closing this theater after business on 8/25/2024. The mall management says they’re in discussions to replace AMC with a different operator.

The Governor’s Square theatre will be reopened in the summer of 2025 by the Michigan based Phoenix Theatres. The new theatre will include 5 screens of Dolby ATMOS, VIP heated recliners, new wall to wall screens and a new expanded lobby design.
