The Eastfield Mall Cinema was located at the eastern end of Eastfield Mall. Opened as a single on December 25, 1968 with David Niven in “The Impossible Years”. It was twinned in 1976. Closed in the mid-1980’s when the mall demolished the space to build a food court. Currently, Showcase operates a stadium style multiplex in the same general area.

Was a General Cinema theatre, managed by Henry Cummings.
Should be listed as demolished. There is nothing left of the original cinemas – that section of the mall was converted into a food court.
Originally a General Cinema, it was operated by Sack Theatres from the latter 70’s until around 1982. When Sack pulled out, N.A. picked it up and it ran 1st run moveovers of NA’s product which was leaving its NA West Springfield location. It closed up for good shortly thereafter.
This opened as a single-screen cinema on Christmas day of 1968. Grand opening ad posted here.
My favorite memories of the Eastfield Mall Cinemas was that as a kid it had all the Disney live releases “The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes”, etc. Final memory, getting to attend the World Premier of “The Reincarnation of Peter Proud” (1975) which was filmed in and around Springfield – I was probably the youngest person in attendance as a 17 year old – the film was rated R – the mayor along with other politicians were present, and the film was loaded with nudity, violence and some amazing dialogue that would be described as highly politically incorrect today. The politicians were clearly at a loss when asked about the film by the local TV stations after the film!
