Movie Buff Theater was shut down. The facility then received a multimillion dollar renovation and reopened as Studio Movie Grill. The renovation included all new audio and digital projeciton systems and a full bar in the lobby. In addition the theater has a full menu of drinks, appetizers, drinks, and entrees.

I’ve been to Movie Buff a few times this year and the experience was decent. The picture and sound quality of the movies is mediocre as compared to newer theaters. The concession stands, the restrooms, and the interior decor have not been upgraded a bit in 20 years and the age is apparent. The ticket and concession prices are lower than the newer theaters and I think it’s a good deal.

This theater is going to be reopened by a Florida resident as an independent and be renamed the Movie Buff with a mixed menu of film offerings: View link

The article from Boxoffice says that the College Park was to be the second theatre in Indianapolis to be able to show “70mm films in Dolby Stereo sound”. (March 1985, pg. 109) So, there certainly could be other 70mm locations, but only one other with 70mm Dolby.

And you do have to be VERY careful with Boxoffice entries, as 2 pages before this they indicate that the Capitol South (Later, City Center) mall in Columbus OH was to have a number of cinema screens, but none were ever put in there.

I know you weren’t.I just wish some of the articles in my old Boxoffices were right.I guess in their defense they never realized folks even be caring about it in the year 2011.Lol.

I did not mean to suggest it was your error, Mike.

Someone wasn’t doing a good reporting job at BOXOFFICE.That is where I got the info on 70mm.

Sorry – I meant, of course, the Indiana Theatre, not the Indianapolis.

Well, it simply could not have been the second theater in Indy to have 70mm if it opened in 1985. The Lyric had 70mm back in 1956 or 1957 for 70mm Todd-AO showings and for years afterwards. The Indianapolis Theatre, like many of the original Cinerama houses, switched over to 70mm in the 1960’s and the Eastwood had 70mm from the late 1960s on. My guess is that there may well have been some others, considering how many 70mm films were released in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s.

Was this the Loews COLLEGE PARK 6 cinemas mentioned in BOXOFFICE about the Grand Opening? If so, it was the second area theatre to have 70mm.This 6 plex had 2,432 seats, bringing Loews to 26 screens and GCC with 31 including a Drive-in. This in Boxoffice March 1985.They change names so much I don’t know.

This theater needs to be torn down. About twelve years ago College Park expanded from ten to fourteen screens, but since then a dozen other theaters offering stadium seating, digital sound, and Imax have been built in the surrounding area.
