The Mid-City Theatre stood on W. Madison Street near the corner of N. Jefferson Street in the West Loop area. It was opened on May 2, 1925. The Film Daily Yearbook of 1945 lists it as closed with seating for 350. It became a tavern named Sid’s Junction, which was still open in July 1966. Today, the site is a parking garage for the Presidential Towers apartments.

The opening of the Mid City Theatre was mentioned in the May 2, 1925, issue of The Moving Picture World :

“Paul Rutishauser opened his Mid-City Theatre on West Madison street, Chicago, last month. Many film folk turned out to congratulate him upon his fine little 300-seat house.”

By 1954 it had become a tavern called Sid’s Junction. It was still that on July 19, 1966 when Richard Speck was captured at the neighboring Starr Hotel for the murder of 8 nurses. Photos added and Sanborn Map added.
