The Nuart Theatre was built in 1935 on Main Street, Moscow, ID. It was built by Milton Kenworthy, a figure noted in the community for his contributions to local entertainment. It is three doors away from his 1926 Kenworthy Theatre (it has its own page on Cinema Treasures). The Nuart Theatre was operated by Carmike Cinemas for many years, was closed in March of 1999 for first-run movies.
Over the following decades the Nuart building hosted a variety of community services:a vegan juice bar, a Redheart Crossing Christian bookstore when the Nuart Theatre was purchased by Community Christian Ministries in January of 2004. They renovated the original 500-seat theatre. Other uses include installation of wireless internet ports, an espresso bar and couches to read books on spirituality. Several other churches operated in the building and also New Saint Andrews College. A small stage was built in the lobby for open-mic nights and on Fridays the Nuart Theatre returned to its roots with free movies.
In 2019 Nate Wilson & Aaron Rench, working with Harby + Points Design, received the local Orchid Award for renovating the building while preserving some ot its original Art Deco spirit.
The Nuart Theatre, along with its neighbor, the Kenworthy Theatre, had been put on the National Register of Historic Places in November of 2001.
As of September 2025, the Nu Art Film Club began screening classic movies or otherwise noteworthy film twice a month in the Nu Art Film Club.

From 1952 a photo postcard view of Main Street along with Nuart and Kenworthy Theaters in Moscow.
I miss the old Nuart theater. I suppose it’s nice that it was renovated but nothing happens there anymore. It has turned into a lifeless, boring place. Just a shell of its former self. It’s very sad and depressing. You think you’ve made it better but it’s worse. I guess it’s only now used for private parties and church gatherings when the students are here. To say the least I’m very disappointed what it’s turned into. I used to look forward to the Friday movies now it’s just nothingness.
