The Amherst Drive-In opened on April 11, 1952 with John Payne in “Crosswinds”. It had an advertised capacity for 1,000 cars. It was closed by JF Theatres on November 27, 1977 with Robert Shaw in “Black Sunday” & John Wayne in “The Shootist”.
The Amherst Drive-In has been demolished and replaced by a shopping center.

An article in the April 7, 1952 edition of the Lynchburg Daily Advance reported that this drive-in would open at 6pm that night and had a capacity for 520 cars. Operated by Neighborhood Theater, Inc. of Richmond.
April 11th, 1952 Grand opening ad posted.
Last season: 1977. It was closed during the winters.
